Students, teachers and parents alike celebrated reading during the annual Regency Park Book Week. Activities included a visit from a celebrated author, a parent-led story time, a book fair and “buddy reading”. The theme this year was “Hats off to reading!” and the week opened with an assembly featuring Neil Griffith, the author of “Hats Off!”. The parents volunteered by reading to the students in all year levels and in one class a parent read a children’s’ book in Spanish, while his daughter translated it into English for her classmates.
The big highlight of the week for the students was the “Drop Everything and Read”-day, as the students wore their pyjamas and slippers to school. Some even brought their snuggly blankets and teddy bears to enjoy cozy reading time in class. Reading is a part of the culture for students, teachers, staff and parents with busy, well-stocked libraries on all YCIS campuses.
